Gross why dont they send kids home like they did back in the day?

They can pick it up from clothing as they usually have the coat racks tight together and it can get on fabric furniture and other things and make way to your child.

Just use the fairy tale or other tree oil products.

That's pretty cruel. My son has always had long hair and no lice. You just have to take care of it.

It's not discrimination, since anyone can get lice, but excluding kids from school does, absolutely, keep them out of school. And DCPS already has enough of an absence problem.

FWIW, our NW private is currently having an outbreak. I don't think it's DCPS' fault.

Buy a laser-cut lice comb and comb once a week, whether they need it or not. The lifecycle is about three weeks, so that way you catch anything before it becomes a big deal. Long hair must stay in braids or it gets cut short.

Because it’s a lot of work to treat it and most cannot be bothered. I made my kids change clothing immediately upon getting home and used the fairy tales lice shampoo, conditioner, gel and hair spray and we managed to avoid it.

You answered your own question. The policy is not to send students home or keep them home due to lice. Further compounding the problem is that many schools, especially charter schools, lack a nurse or someone else qualified to do a “head check” to try to identify lice cases in a systematic way. So students must rely on caregivers to check their heads, keep them home and test them. And most caregivers won’t do what it takes (it takes time and money for bad cases) or even become aware of the lice infestation until it’s pretty rampant and had already had the chance to spread.

I got lice maybe twice total as a child, but it feels like there are constantly lice issues at our DCPS. But kids who had lice were also sent home back then, and I know that now they just let kids sit in class passing their lice around. I know that's consistent with what the CDC says, but the expense and time of having to treat my child is driving me crazy.
