My mother was from a Mediterranean country where widows and close female relatives wore all black after a death, sometimes for months or years. That has not been the case for a long time. People wear dark clothing to a funeral or memorial, and that’s about it.

No and you don't even have to wear black to funerals.

We are Muslims so religiously it doesn't matter. However, in South Asian culture, traditionally people wear white while in mourning for about 40 days. I don't see anyone practicing it anymore other than funeral day, though immediate family avoids wearing or bright fancy clothes for few weeks.

No but plenty of people wear black exclusively that you won’t be questioned about it.

No. And I doubt this is customary in your country either, unless you’re part of a religious sect with odd old fashioned customs. What’s next a period of half mourning?

No. I'd wear it to the funeral only.

DH and I are both immigrants from a Mediterranean country.
In our culture, it’s typical for the family members of the deceased to wear black following a death. The period of wearing black only clothing can range anywhere from a month to a year depending on how close you were to the deceased.

Does this tradition even exist here or do people only wear black on the day of the funeral?
