You could rent furniture through Cort or somewhere for a month.

Thank you everyone! The goal is to eventually move him to DC. His long term partner/girlfriend that he lives with is visiting family for a month and he does not want to be alone in an isolated area, especially in the winter (we live in a small condo so no room for him to stay with us). So this is both a place for him to stay for that period and for us to go shopping for a long-term option as his partner also may move to be closer to her family. I will look into Grand Oaks and the other places mentioned. Brandywine in Potomac also looks promising but they said they may not have a furnished unit available.

Have you considered moving him closer to you as as he ages he'll need more support.

I think thomas circle in dc can do this in the independent living. they provide meals and cleaning, not sure about laundry. also shuttles and lectures and other enrichment.

(my mom was in memory care there, where laundry was included, but memory care is very different from what OPs dad seems to need.)

Grand Oaks does (or did) this. That is how my mom ended up there. They had a one month option. We took that and she was so much better and happier after a month, we got her an apartment there where she stayed until her death two years later.

In VA but I know someone that did this at Chesterbrook Residences in Falls Church when recovering from an injury.

It sounds like your dad might only need independent living though? They would provide meals and cleaning. I don’t think laundry….but maybe that’s available for an extra fee.

Sunrise \ Brighton Gardens in Friendship Heights did this in the past — so it could be worth calling them to see if they still do. If they do, then there’s a good chance that other locations might offer this as well. I think there are minimum and maximum stay guidelines, and a very limited number of furnished apartments available for short stays.

Highly recommend Capitol Ridge in Bristow VA. It is an "age in place" independent living so there are home health workers on site that you can contract with if you find that your dad needs some help or more help.

All meals are included and you can go month to month or respite.

My dad was at Brightview and it was month to month (with a deposit) and he was surprisingly happy there. But, you are not really looking for assisted living and better off to hire someone to come in a few hours a day.

Try a sunrise. I know someone who did repairs with no move in in one, but was different state. Move in fee can easily be waiver there. Our's was

Try searching for “senior respite care.” A lot depends on how much care and location.

Here’s one for example

Thank you for the responses. Yes, I would anticipate a "fee" to allow that but potentially creditable if he decides to stay permanently (which is a potential option for him). Any other leads very much appreciated. But his living partner is going to be away for a month, and we don't want him alone during that time (he is 6 hours away from me) and this would be a good way to transition him here.

But it sounds as though what you’re looking for is a temporary stay in the independent living section of a CCRC, and I don’t know of one that has multiweek stays. Short ones to try before you buy, sure. But not what you/your dad wants

Unfortunately almost all places I know of have a high move in fee (thousands) precisely because they don’t want to be short term option.

Can anyone please recommend an assisted living facility in DC/MD that lets you do "tryout" stays for 2-4 weeks in a furnished apartment or studio? I would need something in the next 2-3 months or so, which means it can't be a place with a long wait list. This is for my 83 year old father, he does not need nursing care and he would likely qualify for a level 1 at an assisted living - basically he is fully independent and does not need help with bathing or medication, but he is a bit unsteady and not comfortable living on his own and wants the support of an assisted living facility to include laundry/cleaning services and a dining room. Many thanks for any leads.
