You literally can't get them to move faster, that's the whole issue.

I got my kid's IEP amended. I was like - how much homework should this be for the typical kid? 1.5 hours? You can either modify the assignment or we're just starting and going to stop at 90 minutes.

BTDT with almost exact same stats - just no ASD but ADHD and 5% processing speed with advanced classes. Not what you want to hear but no there really is t much to do to improve processing speed. You might be able to get an accommodation for reduced homework. Problem with that is that some kids need it for mastery so it’s not really a good alternative.

DS is in 6th grade. He has slow processing speed -5% and ADHD and potential ASD. He is smart and has a very challenging course load. He is doing Algebra 1 in 6th grade, 4 GT subjects and a time intensive elective called GT Research. I know this is the main issue but we are too far along the year and there is no interest in him to change the course work. Think ASD and rigidity and black and white thinking that he is not smart if he didn’t do this.

The issue is home work has been taking 4 to 5 hours everyday. It’s supposed to take no more than 1 to 2 hours. I sit next to him for math and provide support and yet homework that is 20 min long per the teacher takes him 1 hour with support. He is doing ok in tests and gets B or A.

While he doesn’t admit that this is stressful, he is so much more relaxed on the days he doesn’t have a lot of homework. Any ideas on how to help kids with slow processing speed move faster?
