Another Kent Gardens parent here with DS in French LI. They do an excellent job of combining both LI and AAP, which I think is even more impressive than going to a AAP center school. We were offered to transfer to a Center and declined. Even if my DS didn't get into AAP, or I had to choose between LI and AAP, I still value LI much more as language skills are better developed in younger years and you can always enrich via Kumon, Mathnasium, etc.

I'm looking forward to answers to this because our school also offers this. IF our child gets accepted to fulltime AAP, we have a hard decision to make.

Kent gardens has had this for as long as we’ve been there. It’s a huge school, so they have immersion classes in both advanced and on-level math. The language arts are all mixed (since it’s in English) but there are supposed to be advanced and on-level classes as well.
It has worked well for my kids, since even advanced math has never been hard

Fox Mill ES added LLIV three years ago. It is a Japanese Immersion program. They use the cluster method with pull outs for the LIV kids to teach extensions. I am not certain how often the pull outs are but I know that they are happening because friends have discussed them. My friends confirmed that the LIV pull outs are different then the LIII pull out.

Advanced Math has always been a mixed class in third and fourth grade. The JI and Gen Ed classes are divided by homeroom for Advanced Math starting in fifth grade. All the Advanced Math kids are in the same homeroom and the math class and they receive the next grade level math. I always felt like that class essentially became a LLIV class because most of the kids in Advanced Math were ahead in LA as well.

My child was too old for this, so I am getting feedback from friends. The school has a good number of kids go into AAP classes at Carson and Algebra 1 H in 7th grade. It might not be perfect but a lot of families choose to keep their kids in the JI program and defer LIV so the change was a welcome one.

We learned yesterday that our school (Fort Hunt) is going to start doing full time AAP locally and that it will be possible to do both it and Spanish immersion. Parents are rally excited!!

Do any other FCPS schools do this? Any feedback? Seems like it could be hard to pull off but is great option!
