Please, please start threads asking more directly for ideas in different genres. I tend to read pretty mainstream stuff but am trying to branch out - often by reading more “opportunistically” based on what’s available and pops up on Libby.
Whether it’s specifically asking for ideas in X genre or weighing in on an existing thread and asking for different genre takes on that idea, I’d love that.
I've tried to talk about other genres and make suggestions with little descriptions, but most don't engage and a few actively put others down.
Agreed.I agree. There's also a lot of " I loved this book" but without any kind of analysis or explanation as to why. And while its mostly a "safe" forum, I have been really attacked twice by possibly the same, aggressive poster who obviously wandered in here from Politics or Special needs.
I read threads, but feel less enthusiastic about participating because of this stuff. I think people need to consider that there may be others who have been chased off.

So are you going to talk about books or just waste our time?
Just kidding! I also find the book threads so refreshing. My only gripe is "book title only in response post" - but I won't even complain to y'all. I just throw up a tab on goodreads and look them all up one by one if it's a suggestion thread I'm really into.

I pull up amazon or my library website sometimes to see what the book title mentioned is about.
