Please, please start threads asking more directly for ideas in different genres. I tend to read pretty mainstream stuff but am trying to branch out - often by reading more “opportunistically” based on what’s available and pops up on Libby.

Whether it’s specifically asking for ideas in X genre or weighing in on an existing thread and asking for different genre takes on that idea, I’d love that.

I've tried to talk about other genres and make suggestions with little descriptions, but most don't engage and a few actively put others down.

I agree. There's also a lot of " I loved this book" but without any kind of analysis or explanation as to why. And while its mostly a "safe" forum, I have been really attacked twice by possibly the same, aggressive poster who obviously wandered in here from Politics or Special needs.
Agreed.
I read threads, but feel less enthusiastic about participating because of this stuff. I think people need to consider that there may be others who have been chased off.

Ugh - I'm sorry! I really do appreciate those types of descriptive posts and suggestions in other genres. Keep them coming - I'll do a better job of acknowledging them!

This forum is hiding from the snark.

It feels like the Thursday Murder Club hiding with the Japanese Opera Appreciation Club meeting in the Jigsaw Puzzle Room, for those who get that reference.

So are you going to talk about books or just waste our time?

Just kidding! I also find the book threads so refreshing. My only gripe is "book title only in response post" - but I won't even complain to y'all. I just throw up a tab on goodreads and look them all up one by one if it's a suggestion thread I'm really into.

I also initially thought the thread was going to be about a book titled "I love it Here".

I pull up amazon or my library website sometimes to see what the book title mentioned is about.

haha, me too!

I have gotten so many book recommendations on here that I have loved. I really appreciate the time people take to give reviews and provide suggestions when people ask for specific genres.

Even though things are pretty slow and not much goes on here, I love how there's no drama, and people are mostly nice to each other. It feels like a little bubble away from the rest of DCUM that I visit. Just a little shout out to us book lovers!
