Pickup soccer is helpful up until a certain point, then the focus has to change. At 14 your son has at best 1 year where pickup soccer could help his development. But at 14 there is real possibility of bad habits that are harmful for the 15-17 push.
Development is a marathon, until it one day becomes a sprint. And 14/15 is the starting point of the sprint for boys.

He doesn't like to just kick the ball around by himself but would gladly kick around all day every day with any takers. We're in Annandale, and I've struck out trying to find an organized program close enough to us to be sustainable (Future Elitez is too far until they get into futsal season, he's aged out of Pozez JCC, St. James doesn't have anything for his age group right now). Any ideas for some place I haven't thought of or a place where he could just play pick-up with others who show up?
