I can’t speak to DE broadly but early college seemed straightforward and clear for enrollment. It may be in part because they don’t really need to coordinate with the local HS beyond the basics like confirming the student is meeting the graduation requirements. They seem to have it relatively down to a science, at least at my son’s campus.

Not sure PP what H school you are talking about. have heard similar stories not specifically for VMC but for "dual enrollment" - which as another poster said is what it is called for any student who takes a MC course while still in HS.

We actually signed up for this program prior to 9th grade and decided not to pursue based on complete lack of transparency and help from so-called coordinators for VMC.
Just to be clear VMC is completely separate from Dual enrollment at your local High School and neither DE coordinator or your child's counselor know any information about it.
So our experience, we signed up and were told that during 9th grade there will be only monthly seminars and the first class to take will be second semester of 10th grade. By November of the 9th there were no seminars scheduled and we needed to pick our classes for the 10th grade. After repeat back and forward with several contacts at MCPS we finally were directed to a person in charge of the program. She stated that there is nothing to do for 9th graders and thats why we were not receiving seminar invites. Meanwhile, 9th grades did need to pick 10th grade classes and actually did need to sign up for MC
and take placement tests. Anyway, after some more back and forwards we decided to not pursue this all together. Main factor was that the program was originally explained to us as "hybrid" with MC virtual classes and local High School classes and participation. Turned out to be incorrect with all classes in 11th and 12th grades being virtual at MC. We will do DE instead.

Basically all of the programs are different flavors of Dual Enrollment with varying levels of structure, number of courses, and degree attainment. In all cases students are still enrolled at their high school and have access to all activities, athletics, and events.

Dual enrollment (basic) - kids take a few classes at MC senior year.
Jumpstart to College - kids take a series of classes in a focus pathway beginning spring semester of junior year.

Middle College/P-Tech (Northwood, Northwest, Clarksburg) - kids take a series of classes beginning 9th grade that lead to an Associate's Degree by 12th grade. Some MC classes are at the high school in 11th grade, some at MC in 12th grade.

Virtual Middle College - same idea as Middle College except that classes 11th and 12th grade are virtual and available to students at all high schools.

Yes. For all versions of dual enrollment you are still formally enrolled at your local HS and can still participate in school events accordingly. Whether you take your dual enrollment classes at MC, at your local HS, or online will vary by what type of Dual enrollment you are doing.

My daughter is an early college student and does not attend any classes at her local HS, all her classes are at MC. But she does play on a varsity team for her local HS.

Can anyone tell me their experience with the virtual middle college through MC at their high school? The dual enrollment coordinator at Sherwood said she is only in charge of Jumpstart to college. Waiting to hear bsck if other students at Sherwood HS even access this program.
