+1. And some schools treat them like they are any other club or organization that students can join.

As a child, I used to wonder why the daughter of the superintendent who was in my same class seemed to get all the opportunities.

What good is any EC except that it provides kids opportunities to explore interest with a cohort of like minded persons. Ideally provides opportunities for leadership, growth, service, etc.

Does honor society matter for anything? My oldest who had a very good app didn’t do any of this stuff. Wondering if my younger kid who doesn’t have such a great app should maybe take the time to do it. Or is it kind of pointless anyway?

How much is your HS School informing kids about available Honor Societies and their application due dates?

I’ve found ours is mostly posting the applications to a site on the HS website and I guessing hoping kids find out about it before it’s too late. There were no blast announcements to the Junior and Seniors. And the principal only mentioned NHS in 2 of the weekly Principal newsletters.

Not only do I think this unfair to the students, but also inconsiderate of the teachers who then need to write recommendations. Many of whom will already be doing recommendations for colleges, so might want as much advance notice as possible for honor society recs.
