By eighth grade, my kid knew how to take public buses when she missed the D31 for afternoon activities.

D31 or driving. There’s also other public bus routes that could work depending on where along 16th you live. Lots of kids take the D buses afterschool so it has been easy adjustment.

A *lot* of the kids who live in the neighborhood and attend Deal take the D31 bus there and back. It is very easy -- tons of pickup locations on 16th Street and there are two busses. It is early (pickups at like 7:25 / 7:35) but it gets them there on time! If they stay for an after school club or sport we just pick them up.

No, it's one bus that picks up EOTP on 16th St, turns on Missouri/Military, and drives directly to the schools. It's like a yellow school bus but DC-style. A dedicated WMATA route. Look up D33 on the website.

ah thank you! it doesn't show up on google maps so I was confused.

I have had the D33 suggested on Google maps. You just have to specify the time when it is scheduled.

NP here, but it looks like the D31 is the one that goes down 16th through Shepherd Park/Colonial Village: https://buseta.wmata.com/m/index?q=D31 The D33 doesn't go north of Missouri/Military, so that would be a bit of a walk or a separate bus down 16th to get it. (Caveat that I don't use these routes, so I don't have first-hand experience.)

There's a metro bus that picks up at the S stops on 16th and goes straight to school.

There used to be dedicated metro bus service that picked up on 16th street for those kids - is that no longer the case?

And no, I don't think that kids feel left out because of location at that age, mostly because they are not being left out of anything because of location.

Not sure if this should go here or the real estate forum but my question is - for older kids that live in Shepherd Park, how do they usually commute across the park to Deal and Wilson? It seems like public transit would be a hassle - do folks carpool? And - do kids that live in that neighborhood feel left out of activities because they don't live closer to the school?
