Not really. Most of those kids live in houses with lead paint. If they have higher the normal lead levels they place to look is in the home.

This was disturbed and airborne. That is 100% different than encapsulated by multiple layers of latex.

Depends. Renovations happen all the time and sometimes no renovations. Lead paint was used up until the 70s. It's possible that a home has had no painting since then.

Renovations require contractors treat areas appropriately. Thats on you if you went with 'the lowest bid.'

No Rosemont home has missed being painted for 46 years.

There’s lead testing at the Alexandria Health Department today and tomorrow. Free. Walkins available.

What happened to cause them to end up accredited with conditions?

There was a window replacement going in and the contractor did not follow the protocols to prevent lead dust. Someone (unclear who) noticed this and notified the school so they did testing.

What can be done after exposure??

There are medicines that bind with the lead and remove it from the bloodstream. It can’t improve damage already done, but it can prevent more harm. Lead associated problems are due to exposure over time, this is a short term exposure.

Awful. And from what friends in that neighborhood have relayed, there’s no clear long-term plan for when students will be able to get back in the building for in-person learning. Anyone heard more recent updates?

When we went through this with our DCPS, it was very helpful to get both the finger test and the vein blood draw from Children's. I'd definitely recommend them again or at least a peds focused lab. Our son didn't even realize that it was supposed to hurt a bit, they were so good with it.
