Possibly Madeira since they have a pool. Also NE boarding schools definitely do. Most day schools in the DMV don’t have pools or swim teams.

I think swimming helps with admissions to some of these schools not because they really care that much about the results of their swim teams (a few do) but because swimmers demonstrate a work ethic and dedication that tends to yield strong outcomes, which is what these schools want. They look for kids who demonstrate they will be successful in life, for many that is grades, others it is sports, others it is extracurriculars. Successful kids go to good colleges and earn scholarship money (to brag about in brochures) and then tend to get good jobs which make them lucrative future donors.

We live close to Baltimore and swimming does help with admissions at McDonough

SR has “collected” Olympians bc they were willing and able to accommodate them. Also 2/3 of them followed a Catholic school path that may have been important to their families. None of the Olympians trained at SR or with the club coach who is the SR head coach.

I know a girl who was the best swimmer her year in the admissions pool for 9th grade, didn’t hear one word from any coach or athletic department until she made contact. Schools she didn’t look at never reached out, which includes one of these. The other she was accepted during the usual process.

So, in my experience, no recruiting, no money (which has to be labeled as something other than athletic when it is offered), possible admissions boost. There have always been stories that coaches for any sport get a number of names to give as their list to admissions.

Most schools value football, basketball and volleyball athletes the most and of course if your swimmer manages to be a state or METROs champion they get the bragging rights but that’s about it

As a note, MD privates don’t go to swim state championships. Except one Baltimore area school for some reason.

DC state championships meet is only 2-3y old, and doesn’t mean much.

What about in NoVa? And in the Stoneridge and Holton situations, are they getting $ or just an admissions advantage?

I've heard of some slightly above average swimmers getting money to go to an area private school. The parents made it sound like their kids were getting money to swim but I can't verify exactly what the circumstances were.

I would say no, but would also say that if you have an all star swimming athlete, it will help their chances because it will get the school name recognition.

like they do for football, basketball, other sports?

I have heard first hand that private school coaches loiter on the sidelines of travel lacrosse, basketball games for SIXTH graders....

Does this happen with swim?
