So I am an NP and for awhile took a sort of, detour down, aesthetic nursing. I ended up not like it for this reason. When you do it well and tasteful people feel overcharged and underserved; they barely notice a thing. When you do too much they either a.) like it a lot because their imagine of themselves has become slowly distorted over the years or b.) they hate it and feel overcharged and poorly served. There was no "win" with fillers. Botox has a broad category of "winning", it serves A LOT for many things but fillers just very rarely hit. I felt like even the best offices were counting on category A of women and it was beginning to really make me hate the entire industry so I got out.

OP here. Thanks for all the comments. Yes this is what I thought, it's good that no one would look at me and think that I got filler, but the difference is so subtle that it definitely wasn't worth it. $200 highlights make a difference that's worth it, this was five times as much and I look the same.

I see a couple people talked about a facelift. It's partly the cost but mostly the idea that turns me off, just seems kind of nuts. I am as vain as the next person, but the idea of getting surgery on my face at my age to try to look younger is a bridge too far for me personally.

Botox is a little weird after 50 because the smooth forehead looks bizarre with the aged neck.

I recently had a lump develop in the inside of my upper lip that I had to have removed. It was done under general anesthesia and was then a painful recovery. Guess what the biopsy showed? It was filler that had migrated from my cheek area. I’ve never had filler in or near my lips. I’ve done fillers every 1.5-2 years in my cheeks for around 7 years. It’s been over 2 years since I last had it done so it does not dissolve completely.

Never again! And now I wonder if the sagging that’s recently developed in my jowel area is filler that has migrated down.

Early 50s with marionette lines or nasolabial folds and signs of aging around the mouth puts you quite firmly in facelift territory. You have too much laxity to see improvement with filler.

It means you went to an honest injector who started conservatively. I would recommend going back and letting them know you were hoping for a bigger difference. Did they discuss a gradual approach with you? If not, perhaps you should have a consult with someone else. Capital Laser and Skin are very conservative (almost too conservative as they charge per area…) but definitely trustworthy, in case you want a second opinion.

I would never do it because I hate how it looks, but if you can’t tell a differences that probably means it was as well done as it could be. Once you can see it is when it’s bad. It’s also now permanently in your face and I strongly dislike that. No telling where it will migrate to. I love Xeomin/Botox but filler is not for me.

I agree it is not worth it. I have known enough people who have done it in varying amounts and I have never once thought "oh wow she looks so much better." It either looks imperceptible to me or I notice it but it doesn't look better than they looked before. I think I just do not mind the specific signs of aging that filler is meant to address.

I would rather spend the same money on everyday maintenance that I know from experience makes a difference (a really great haircut and color is gold imo) or in beauty or wellness services that I find very pleasurable and stress-reducing. I recently got into float tanks and if I did it weekly it would easily cost a lot more than regular filler but I feel like it would improve my appearance more just by putting me in a more relaxed and happier mood.

I did it under my eyes and in my cheeks about 2 years ago.

I hated everything about it. The injections hurt and felt terrible - and that crunchy sound! Ugh. Then I was swollen for at least 3 weeks. And very sore for the first week. I guess my cheeks looked better in person/in the mirror but in photos they looked weird.

Not doing it again. Will just do a bleph/face lift in a few years.

Did you get the amount of filler that was recommended? $1000 is a lot of money, but it really depends on your face and what you need to make a noticeable difference.

I got half of what was recommended, but I am younger and have a gaunt face so anything made a difference.

I'm in my early 50s with some signs of aging around my mouth and nasolabial folds. I got filler in these areas and spent approximately $1000 on it, and I'm surprised that the difference is mostly unnoticeable. If I stare closely at before/after pictures, I might look a tad bit better, but if anyone looked at the two pictures they would say that I look the same, not even a year younger or fresher.

Anyone else decide that it's not worth the money? Or maybe it doesn't make a big difference in those areas? This was at a reputable place.
