I just set an alarm to remind me to pay cash. I I use different denominations and coins for math/ counting practice and track expenses with an old fashioned check register (enlarged print out). And I cut off allowance at 10 (youngest kid is getting an extra year b/c COVID).

Once they aren’t getting allowance they can choose from a variety of extra jobs around the house, and eventually they can take jobs in the neighborhood. Older kids I paid in cash until a few years ago when I switched to Apple Pay unless they specifically wanted cash.

Lol...why a kid pay for a movie or art supplies? Why spend money weekly? Why not teach to save. In our house we save way more than spend but parents still provide art supplies and pay for fun family activities. The kids buy candy, gum, cars, mini stuffies, etc...or save for something bigger. Most get cash and gift cards from family for birthdays since they don't live close.

When kids are 6 and 8 I don't really think they need to be spending $2 every week on stuff they don't need..... They save up and do plenty of things. It's not like parents stop paying for everything for them... Why would I make my child pay for a movie the family is going to?. 🤷🏼‍♀️

What do you find the easiest way to remember to do allowance? I tried a couple years ago with my oldest and we both forgot within 2 weeks!
