Then you need to understand that the videos you saw did not capture the full extend of the surge, because precious people were in those locations, filming casually. They will make their way to you. I've seen plenty. Houses floating away, water up to the eaves, etc.

Often flooding is the bigger problem than the winds. Not all strong hurricanes cause flooding. Hurricane Ssndy was barely a hurricane when it hit NY/NJ and was devastating.

Most do. Some don’t. Over the next few days we will learn about those who didn’t and if they lived to tell the tale.

Huh? Rescue services are not in the affected areas yet, so if there are fatalities they have yet to be discovered. Not sure what you are thinking.
But the storm path and dangers were well advertised and I bet a lot of people did evacuate. The deadliest storms are those that take a last minute swerve into areas that didn't expect it.

Obviously the number may sadly go up. But I am quite surprised that so many people can survive a storm of that strength. I imagine that like most other hurricanes, many of them didn't evacuate. What's the explanation?
