Another spouse chiming in - SAME issues with untreated ADHD and a hair trigger, incredibly dysfunctional family of origin, etc. 4 years in as of yesterday and I’m mentally checking out. I think I can make it 5 more years as we have young kids, but couple’s counseling, kindness and grace, suggesting strategies, and trying to improve communication haven’t helped. He promised he’d do better with second child. Yeah right.

No one wants to admit it, but most men are simply not built to handle the complexities of home management and child rearing. It involves too many balls in the air. They are better suited to singular focus. But since we now require "equality" we pathologize men when they struggle.

No one wants to admit it, but most men are simply not built to handle the complexities of home management and child rearing. It involves too many balls in the air. They are better suited to singular focus. But since we now require "equality" we pathologize men when they struggle.

There are so many of them. Poverty and drug use really messed up my DH's whole family.
Second partner was an Aspie, but their foreign born family doesn't know it or ignores it. Not the only one in the family.
Met a lovely man who seems to have lived in severe poverty in third world country. Some childhood problems that still persist.
I'm old, so three men in my life at different times is not a lot. Those were actually the best candidates.

Those untreated mental disorders and anger mgmt problems coupled with adult responsibilities certainly destroy relationships.

Sometimes, this is what "prioritizing the children's best interests" looks like.

I'm still married on paper. We live essentially separate lives in separate houses. It's less than ideal, but it preserves our children's quality of life, allowing their childhood to be about them being children, not collateral damage in a war between their parents.

I'd divorce my spouse today if doing so wouldn't throw my children's lives into financial chaos and upheaval, but it would. So we make do. Sometimes, loving someone means doing what's best for them instead of what's easiest for me.
