I love to bake, but sometime knowing exactly how much butter went into something makes it less fun to eat.

Where I live all the bakeries have moved to the special order model where they sell elaborately decorated cakes covered with fondant. Nobody sells just one pastry and coffee, I guess it's not as profitable. I can't imagine anyone wanting to eat those awful cakes.

I worked in bakeries and restaurants for a few years in my 20s. Most people who bake/cook for a living don’t eat what they sell. They taste it of course, but it’s not like they’re sitting down and enjoying full meals at their place of business. It’s grueling work. You’re on your feet and dog tired all the time. And at the end of the day, all you want is something to eat… from anywhere else!

I worked in food service. I concur that it’s about prolonged exposure to the smell. I worked in an Ice cream shop and it was fine because it didn’t smell too much. I also worked at a restaurant. At the end, I could not be in the same room as the soup after smelling it for months on end. That’s all. It was really good soup, at first.

I worked at Dunkin' Donuts in hs. I ate free donuts every weekend, lol. I weighed about 100lbs wet, so I was able to eat as many as I wanted without even thinking about it. But now, to me, any donut more than an hour old is not fresh enough to eat.

I don’t like what they sell. It tastes like overdue antibiotics.

My aunt used to make cakes and desserts with quality ingredients. By worth of mouth, her patisserie turned into success. Everything tasted naturally great. She then started offering low sugar options and no sugar-added items. The success continued for many years.

Also, who cares? Do you like what they sell?

Because if they ate what they sold every single day, they would become unhealthy and have a harder time keeping up with their business.

Please explain to me why many cake/ bakery/ all sweets business owners don’t eat what they sell. Usually, these are thin women who look exactly like other women who workout every single day and eat nothing more than salads and berries.
