It’s going to depend on the kid. Has he heard his whole life how great his Dad’s fraternity is, watched his dad be involved in the alumni group, going to the same college…? Then maybe.

Also, while things have changed related to legacies, it is generally that there is now no requirement to give a legacy a good chance not that legacy status is hidden.

No, kids are too embarrassed to even tell them they are a legacy. Getting a notification to look at a certain kid is not a help anymore.

The question is crazy. I was in a sorority. Fraternities and sororities vary school by school and even year by year. At some schools a chapter is very strong and very weak at others. Delta Gamma was a perfect example of this. So your husband’s fraternity may be a bunch of losers 20+ years later. Or not, but still not the best fit for your kid.

+1 Troll. Fraternities are different everywhere you go. Dad's fraternity at school X might be filled with a bunch of people not unlike the kid. That's the purpose of rush... for both to find a fit or not.

I’d think the better question would be why those fraternities are no longer operating on campus.

My son is a college freshman. I don't think he could name my fraternity.
