This is OP - we're fine, thank goodness, but a lot of people are not. There was - and is - crazy flooding here where we are, and we didn't get a direct hit (or even all that much rain). A lot of people ended up in a very precarious situation here.

One of three sewage treatment plants in the city have shut down so 70,000 people can't flush their toilets for a few days now.

Very very VERY grateful that we are ok. The people who are not are going to need a lot of help recovering.

Yes, the eye of the storm will go over Tallahassee. The eye of the storm is the very center. Strong winds extend at least 100 miles past the eye. The areas to the east of the center of the storm get more wind and rain than the areas to the west of the center of the storm.

All is fine here in Destin in the far western part of the panhandle. We are on the "clean" side of the storm and getting some 35 MPH wind gusts, which is no big deal.

A lot of people have evacuated to our area, and our area is where equipment / vehicles / personnel are already here and staged to begin cleanup and rescues as soon as it has passed.

Feeling grateful right now for our solid house and that we’re only affected by the edge of the hurricane and not getting a direct hit. I can’t even imagine what the panhandle is going through now as this thing makes landfall.

All that Gulf beach replenishment is going to wash back out I suspect. Beach replenishment is a losing battle now.
