Like any college, VA in-state colleges expect applicants to have enrolled in the most rigorous high school courses across five core subjects: English, Science, Social Studies, Mathematics, and Foreign Language. "Rigorous" means taking the highest-level courses available, including AP and DE options, and any levels beyond that.

It is likely common knowledge at Virginia colleges that it can be challenging for non-native speakers to complete four years of World Language, including AP level, at TJ. Therefore, regardless of the intended major, having four or more WL credits, one of them being AP, can enhance a student's application.

For liberal arts majors, four years of World Language significantly strengthens the application. However, for non-liberal arts majors, four WL credits by itself is not of much value unless the student has already demonstrated rigor in Math, Science, and English. For STEM majors, enrolling in AP & post AP-level courses in these subjects would be a priority, followed by World Language and Social Studies.
