A few years back, when my DD was 14 and these invites started, a group of players from her team were invited. Included was a player who had just moved over from a GA club earlier that year. She was known to be a top player on this GA team, but she was (and continues to be) a bench player on my DDs team. Sometimes. she doesn't even make it off the bench. She was invited to two ID centers, and none since (its been three years).
My DD has attended several ID centers and over a dozen YNT camps, handful of international trips, etc. Some of the stuff said here is not accurate.

How many invitations a club receives speaks more to the reputation of the coaches than the skills of the players. All of the big, well connected club coaches from ECNL/GA will get to send a few of their favorite players. The coaches decide who they want to reward based on any number of factors: recruiting and retaining players, placating parents, and yes politics. Talent factors in because a coach doesn't want to ruin their reputation by sending a terrible player, but it is not the only factor. If a player is chosen it means they are a good player and more importantly one of the coach favorites at that club. It does not mean the player will "called up" to USYNT training camps which is quite rare especially in this area.

Politics and connections, one of the biggest contributors was recently hired and pulled players from another club and that person is also a US Soccer talent scout, you would think it's conflict of interest but that allows him to make promises and keep them.
Regardless, it's an opportunity and congrats to them, but don't expect much change to the process.
