(a) Its cheaper to buy in bulk and freeze and use when you want it.

(b) It's more convenient to just take something out of the freezer and thaw it than go to the store where they may, or may not, have the right cut.

The key is getting a vacuum sealer. If you freeze it in the store wrap, or just throw it in a ziplock, it gets freezer burn and is not as good. But if you buy good meat and freeze it in a vacuum sealed bag immediately, it stays very fresh.

Is it as good as fresh cut meat? No. But the difference is almost unnoticeable.

Same. I grocery shop frequently and avoid freezing meat bc it is just so much better when fresh and never frozen

Is she doing all the shopping and cooking? If so, then it is easier for her, so you have no say. Buying in bulk and freezing allows her to freeze in the portions she needs. It’s not like she has to actively defrost the meat. She just has to remember to pull it out of the freezer. Going shopping for individual meals sounds like hell.

We used to do this back in the day when we were newly married and didn’t have much money. Now we just buy smaller quantities as needed for our family of 3. I agree with you, OP.

Anyone else hate freezing meat?

My wife insists on buying large quantities of meat at Costco and freezing in smaller packs at home. I think it is the stupidest thing. We live with in a 2 minute drive or less than 10 minute walk of 4 or 5 grocery stores. If we need meat we can get it in less than the time it takes to thaw it.

I understand why people freeze meat when there is a need, but when there isn't a need why would anyone choose to do this. Thawed and cooked meat tastes awful to me.
