I just wear a baggy t-shirt or sweatshirt with them, and no-shoe socks and New Balance sneakers.

OP has several older kids -- so she's doing drop off and pick up and playground meetups and going to kids activities. But most of the other moms don't have a newborn and aren't still postpartum and she wants to feel a bit more pulled together but not waste money on jeans at a time when her body is in flux and she doesn't know how they are going to fit in 2-3 months.
This is not a weird question.

I wear leggings a lot but like to wear something long on top. I either wear tunics or dresses that are meant to be mini dresses but look more like tunics.

I wear a lot of my husbands dress shirts over my leggings. He’s a men’s size M and that fits me nicely plus his shirts are really good looking. I get a lot of compliments from my friends. I often use one of his ties as a belt since he rarely wears them anymore.

Agree on quality leggings. You can buy those used online too. Lululemon are cut well I've found.
I would try a button down flannel shirt with a puffer vest. Or a more fitten well-cut shirt with puffer vest.
You could also try quality, zip-up athleisure jackets (no hood).

I do know, yes, thank you. I also have learned the hard way that your body does not change the same with each pregnancy, c section vs vaginal, boy vs girl, energy level during pregnancy.
I’ve wasted a ton of money in my life on transitional jeans and I will not do it again. Trying a new strategy and asking for help. I think another new factor is social — at 30, a ton of my friends were new moms walking around with me looking like hell warmed over. This time it’s just me so I feel weird about picking up the kids in my pajamas or whatever new moms do.
Help so very much appreciated. Pictures are especially welcome!

After consultation with wise dcum, I have decided to postpone my goal of finding new jeans until 7/8 months postpartum. I’m almost 4 months now. (And since this is my fifth kid and I’m 44 yes old, the recovery is daunting. Help.)
I work at home so it is possible for me to wear leggings for a while, but how do I style them? Sneakers and athleisure I know, but what about oversized button downs and sweaters? What shoes? How to handle the socks? Thank you for your continued help!
