With quality wigs readily available and affordable, there is no reason except for ignorance and personal choice that a woman cannot have attractive hair as she ages.

I'm 59. I fully support people's fashion choices. Though, I do hope those choices are not made because of fear and judgment. Just because a woman's hair isn't what it was in her 20s doesn't mean it isn't attractive.

Oh, I hope you are as supportive of men who choose wigs, extensions, weaves or transplants. Otherwise, you are perpetuating a standard.

Thinking you can hide an aging neck with longer hair is like thinking you can hide a bald pate with a comb over.

It sucks. Be glad you don't have the problem.

You can buy a wig. They are very comfortable, affordable and nearly undectable to 99% of the population (only other wig wearers know what to look for.)

Okay, you are probably not an older woman.
In the midst of menopause and have to dress very lightly. Can't imagine having to wear a big hairy thing on my head too.

It will be interesting to see if younger Gen X and Millennials continue this trend. Boomers+ grew up and were working/middle age adults in time periods where women got to a certain age and just cut their hair short or short-ish, apart from a time period in the 80s when big and somewhat longer hair was the thing, but even then it was more of a youth, mid 20s and under thing. I’m 40, my friends and family group range from 35-50ish, and very few women are doing the short, severe, overly styled haircuts. Whereas our moms mostly had those hairstyles by early to mid 30s at the latest.

I wore my hair mid-back length for years. I've noticed that as I've aged I have cut it shorter, bit by bit. It perks up my face, and there is no surprise if long hair in the back and turn around and Yikes!, she is not young.

That said, I can't imagine I'll ever go shorter than shoulder length.

I still have a ton of hair although the texture has changed since menopause. I wear it super short now because I cannot be arsed with hair styling, makeup, and of that crap anymore. I wash my face with very good retinol soap and apply moisturizer and use a tiny bit of eyeliner and an eyelash curler and lip gloss and that is all I can be arsed to do.

It makes me laugh now and again because my mother always wanted me in short hair (it suits my face) and I always wanted it longer my whole childhood so I wore it long for years after I came under my own control. It’s ironic that once I came entirely under my own control - free of biological reproductive urges - I was happy to embrace a haircut so short that my entire styling regime is one minute of rubbing in some bed head type styling produce and letting it dry however it wants.

Every day that I am post menopausal I love my body and face more than ever before.

Gravity starts to pull everything down. Some people don’t want their hair to add to it.

I’ve had short hair most of my life. It’s not like most women decide to cut their hair after they reach a certain age. Short hair just looks better on me. I have petite features and very thick hair, and longer hair isn’t flattering on me.

Why do older women get their haircut short when that exposes their necks and necks show age? And is it because their hair gets thin, they think it makes them look better, or they want less hassle of washing it?
