I would have her use a regular moisturizer and then apply SPF on top of that. Whole Foods has plenty of clean options in their skincare aisle.

Thanks for the reply. From what I saw, both those brands have a mineral sunscreen but not a daily moisturizer plus mineral SPF. She definitely will complain about wearing a thicker sunscreen when just going to sit in school.

Maybe she’s right? I wouldn’t do that either. I would put some on before outdoor after school sports practice, if it’s at 3pm (maybe at 5pm I would skip). But do you think she really needs sunscreen to sit in school?

The pediatrician noticed the redness and new freckles/facial moles and suggested it along with a moisturizer to see if it cuts down on overproduction of oil and acne. She said if after getting in a better routine with twice daily washing and morning moisturizer plus sunscreen didn't work, then consider going to a dermatologist.

She has come home red from school. The walk to school is about a mile and then outdoors PE (half the time) is second period and lunch (outdoors when weather allows) is at 11:00 am, so she is getting a fair bit of morning sun.

Elta Md is the one that works for me.

But honestly as a fair skinned person during the summer it’s way more important that I always have a hat and that I apply a sunscreen during the day whenever I’m going to be out in the sun, and I usually just smear on whatever I’m putting on my body (I like the meutrgena sheer).

I don’t think the morning “daily” sunscreen matters that much because none of us put on enough, especially the mineral, and because it’s too long before you’re even in a lot of sun anyway. So I just don’t really ascribe to the idea that it’s important to put it on in the morning or that you’re then “done” and my sensitive skin is happier getting to breathe longer without it.

Anyone have recommendations for a fair and sensitive skinned teen for a daily moisturizer plus SPF, ideally mineral based and not too expensive? Pediatrician suggested adding that to daily hygiene but didn't have brand recommendations.
