Are Ivies offering roster spots to students that don't qualify for admission? One would hope that they don't waste everyone's time and disadvantage their teams by doing so.

They may get recruited but Ivys do not have scholarships so they do not give out offers.

I heard that they like to see some junior year grades so they wait until later (after first semester) to give out verbal commitments unless you’re Trials level

Is this true? TIA to anyone with experience on this

D1 does commitments in Fall of kid's junior year, not just Texas and Florida.

Yes obviously but the fastest schools get the fastest kids first.

For the Ivy, my DS did a pre-read in the summer before Senior year after junior year grades were available and got his offer in September senior year. OVs were in spring of Junior year (after coach looked at transcript, but no official pre-read until after OV). There may be exceptions for a top 5 swimmer.
So D3 and Ivy timeline sounds the same? Thank you for this, btw
No, plenty of Ivies give offers in fall of junior year.
