People don't buy them for extra warmth. It's just a brand like any other.

I remember reading somewhere that people were removing the logo patch for fear of being robbed (of the coat and in general).

If I buy a down coat it’s going to be eiderdown, only. Worth every penny.

After you step over a few corpses at Metro entrances with icy ops wearing $200-600 coats, you learn to spend money where it matters.

I would not wear it bc I don’t want someone to steal it off me at gunpoint.
Seems like a good coat though.

I'm in downstate NY and, trust me, a good LL Bean down coat is plenty warm (I'm outside a lot). Doubtful CG in DC is ever a necessity. CG is absolutely status signaling around here. Take away the logo and I really wonder how many people would be wearing them.

lol no, it does not get remotely cold enough to justify wearing a Canada goose parka in DC solely for weather purposes. You need to get out more.

Canada Goose has different levels of warmth. Level 5 (the warmest) is not needed in DC, but Level 3 and 4 are very appropriate. I bought several CG parkas when they were on sale ($600-$750). For someone like me who is very sensitive to cold it ‘s absolutely worth the money. I used to tremble in my North Face and Patagonia, with CG, I don’t feel a thing.

I bought CG Black Label. Black Label doesn’t have the bright CG logo, no one can tell it’s a CG coat unless you scrutinize it from very close up.

My family in Chicago wear them. They all have dogs and walk near the lake. I’m guessing they’d wear them even without the patch. They’ve been the best of the bunch and we’ve all tried many over the years. Chicago wind whipped straight through my North Face, Patagonia, etc.

Canadian here and I don’t even think they are appropriate in Toronto except for one week in February. It’s downright hilarious in DC. I do have friends who do research in the Arctic and they wear them. So no, I don’t think people would wear them if others couldn’t tell immediately how much they cost.

I’m in Minneapolis now. I’ve had the one that looks like a sleeping bag and goes to my ankles, for about 8 years now. I have to say it was worth it. I can wear just a t-shirt underneath, where with other parkas I needed layers. It also still looks perfect after years of wear. Maybe worth it only if you travel to cold climates. It’s not like it’s attractive at all.

Around me, all the stylish young car salesmen wear them in the winter. It's a lewk.

Would people still pay $1,200 for these coats if that iconic patch wasn't brightly and predominantly displayed on the sleeve? If the label was inconspicuously located on the inside of the coat, would they still be popular? I saw my first CG coat of the season today, and couldn't help but wonder this. Not quite sure what warrant's these costs costing over 1,000 vs. Patagonia, LL Bean, REI, etc...
