no stress to get in

decent faculty and academics

lots of programs to chose from

not very expensive

located in a region with good economy and jobs

Get head out of ass. People in flyover states (unlike here) know where they fit academically, so if they know they wont thrive at the bigger & better universities in the state, they don’t bother applying. That’s why places like U of Kansas, U of Oklahoma, & U of Arizona can accept a majority of applicants & still have fairly high standards.

Everything my high-stats kid is looking for in a safety. High admissions rate means no yield-management shenanigans. Plus rolling admissions, automatic merit, an honors college, a chance to live outside the DMV, warm and sunny winters and FBS football.

$20k off of a $50k coa is in line with our instate flagship UMD but we can actually get accepted.

A few years ago, they were offering 32k per year in automatic merit aid for a 4.0 UW GPA. This year, they cut their maximum automatic merit aid to 20k. It used to be a great deal for strong students from the East and West Coast. Not so much anymore…

Also an alum. They have some strong programs/majors. Merit for good students both in state and out of state. Loved my time there.
