Agree that OP should have gone to legoland anyway. "Ghetto" might not be the right word, but it sounds like dad doesn't want his daughters twerking around. Some of these hip hop classes for kids have questionable moves, so I wouldn't push that if he's uncomfortable. It's not unreasonable.

It’s not exactly a double standard but it’s possibly a sign that he reflexively disagrees with whatever you suggest. So you need to grow a spine. If I had free tickets to Legoland and my kid wanted to go, we would go.

My rule of thumb is that when people are being unreasonable, that means I get to ignore them stop trying to compromise with them and I do what I want.

“DH, I just signed the girls up for that dance class FYI.”

“DH, DD and I will be going to Legoland today. Would you like to join us?”

Legoland is great if you are already in the area, but it isn't worth the trip for anyone living in DC

I would have un-vetoed legoland, its great for kids that like legos and are a certain age. what did you do instead of lego land and hio hop dance?

I don't think he's a hypocrite unless he is now saying he wants your kids to sign up for hip hop and your family to go to legoland. If he just thinks it's nice for his brother's kids, that's different.

It's not a double standard to make choices for your own kids without caring that other people make different choices for their kids.

I do think it's wrong for a parent to veto a trip to a theme park for kids because they're not interested if the kid is and the tickets are free, or to veto an activity a kid is interested in because it's "ghetto" but a "double standard" isn't the problem here.

DH did not like the idea of me suggesting signing up hiphop or street dance for our 2 kids like 1-2 years ago. I think it is really cool but he thinks they are kind of ghetto in terms of music, clothing & dance moves. He also did not take us to legoland while we were at san diego trip this summer. We had free tickets and he was not interested in legoland. DD was interested in legoland but we could not go if someone insists not going.

A few days ago, DH told me that his niece signed up for hip hop dance classes, and BIL family went to legoland this summer. I was so pissed when he told me about it. I asked what he thought, and he told me that it was nice and good for them. I was mad that he did not think hip hop classes is ghetto anymore and it is nice that they went to legoland. We could have signed up our kids with hip hop classes for our kids (one same age as niece) 2 years ago and went to legoland (with free tickets)this summer. Is that double standard of him? BIL is his brother.
