This also makes a lot of sense to avoid having kids come in at the higher grades who don't have any Spanish experience, which is a drag on the class and teachers. Based on the current 5th grade MV P street seems this happened, last year they had about 60 students.

That may have been the word, but that wasn't the reality.
MVP offered 15 seats for 4th grade and 4 for fifth grade in the initial lottery run and 5 4th grade seats in the equitable access run
MV8 numbers are lower, offered 2 4th grade seats on lottery day and 5 equitable access seats. None for 5th grade

Ah yes, the expansion that for years has been talked about but DCI doesn't show the slightest progress towards actually accomplishing.

Makes sense but how many PK3s do they have right now? Because they offered a ton to make up lost revenue from people leaving. This feels like a plan dependent on massive attrition, which isn't really a healthy way to run a school.

You should be in pretty good shape then. Out of 84, I would assume that maybe 5-6 move/go private/go to Deal or Hardy. Assuming you're looking at 78-79 for 70 spots, it sounds like there will likely be enough overflow "feeder spots" at the other schools this year to accommodate everyone who wants a spot.

There are cross-campus parent groups for 5th grade caregivers. We have a 5th grader at P St. and there are a little over 30 kids this year. Perhaps the with class liaison has more info as we’re already working on the Puerto Rico planning for the full cohort.

We’re definitely lucky and the last of the MV cohorts where DCI is *nearly* guaranteed.

I think this is hard to know because of sibling preference. I assume more P Street kids will have the preference.

At a DCI feeder and know several families going private.

I believe there are 40-ish DCB 5th graders this year so there may be some DCB spots left for other feeder kids. In reference to the PP, some kids chose other schools for 6th such as nearby charters and private.

It would be logical for 5th graders at the DCI feeders to be largely planning for DCI. Because unless their plan is to move out of DC for 6th grade, many don’t have another good public option. The ones who wanted other schools/feeds in DC already peeled off after 4th grade.

Don't know anything about MV numbers, but LAMB 5th grade has 50 kids currently (with 50 spots allocated). A couple of kids may go somewhere other than DCI, but everyone I've spoken to about next year claims that DCI is their plan (at least at the moment), so I wouldn't count on more than a couple of "leftover" spots from LAMB. Obviously, I haven't talked to everyone, but it feels like significant buy-in.

You won't be able to know that for another couple weeks-- some schools are still making 5th grade offers.

Does anyone have an accurate sense of the total number of fifth graders combined at the two Mundo verde campuses this year? I understand they have 70 total slots for DCI and I know the Calle Ocho campus has 52 fifth graders. Any sense of how many at p street? Trying to get a semi accurate guess at the chances of getting into dci for 6the grade. Any other factors pro and con other than pure numbers of kids that may lead to better or worse chances? For example I heard that feeder schools get preference if there is any left over spots from other feeder schools, and that dc bilingual may have a smaller fifth grade cohort this year, anyone know about that? Any insight is much appreciated.
