It's not clear to me why DPW is NOT impounding cars. They already have the law their side. Further, MPD can pull over cars with tickets and call for an impound tow to DPW.

Even if VA and MD do not want to grant reciprocity, it is clear that the employees of MPR and DPW do not want to do their jobs. It's called a work stoppage and it needs to be resolved. I'm fine if DC wants to give a $500 bounty to MPD and DPW employees who get such a vehicle off the road.

A federal judge already said DC can't require residents to pay their outstanding tickets to renew their drivers license as its a violation of due process:

What’s scary is that this is an intersection of 4 narrow residential streets. Apparently this guy gunned it around a car stopped at the red light at a high rate of speed. There is zero reason ro be flying down the streets there except sheer reckless and disregard of others. I hope he gets thrown in jail, and I hope that DDOT installs speed tables all up and down 6th and E if they don’t already exist.

he honestly comes off as a psychopath. I’m not sure if his prior tickets can be used in court against him. In any event I hope this article lights a fire under the DC AG to indict for aggravated reckless driving (or any higher charge available).

The real issue here is that traffic laws and traffic cameras are racist. This has been documented in studies across the country.

This is all the fault of the DC for failing to provide an adequate streetcar network for citizens. The government should be fined for forcing people to own cars.
