My kids aren’t high school age yet but practice runs 4ish-6ish for most sports, bands, and clubs no?

This is pretty crazy and my 9th grader has way too much time on his hands. He does play a sport outside of school. Do parents have their kids doing any extra work outside of school?

Now the work is there to do if your kid is so inclined but J-R bends over backwards to make sure that all kids get good grades - essentially any deadline for work is really the end of the semester when grades close and I have no idea how the avalanche of stuff that gets turned in on the last day even gets graded so my assumption is most of it isn't.
