I don’t think pine nut mouth is a myth, as it happened to me. I had eaten pine nuts for years, but one bag from TJs did me in. This was a couple of years ago impacted everything I tasted for a week or more afterwards. It took me a while to figure out what was going on. I am guessing they changed where they sourced them from.

Actually the China link has been debunked. Pine mouth is something that a very small number of pine nut eaters experience - like tasting soap when you eat cilantro. I’m luckily not one of those people, have been eating pine nuts for nearly 30 years and never had an issue.

Forgot to say that I always toast my pine nuts before consuming - the article suggests that it may be consuming raw nuts that causes pine mouth.

So there is a Trader Joe’s near me except that I live in the traffic hellscape that is greater Boston and environs and I haven’t been to the Trader Joe’s since before the pandemic because it’s an hour long trip to get there and I don’t crave that many of their products since they stopped selling their sun dried tomato pesto.

Anyway I just wanted to share for anyone else who doesn’t have a Trader Joe’s near them or convenient to them: I found this website called Oh Nuts! and ordered both pine nuts and walnuts - which I eat every day and also use in my homemade sun dried tomato pesto.

The nuts arrived very fast and are excellent quality at a great price. Best price/quality I’ve yet found, so I wanted to recommend the site for those interested.

I just buy a little packet at Safeway. They taste perfect fine in our pesto tortellini after I toast them in the skillet for a bit.

Trader Joe’s carries pine nuts at a reasonable price. My pesto tastes so good.

Pp, also, I se them in pesto, salads, and my fav easy pasta dinner is just pasta with toasted pine nuts and sun dried tomatoes. Quick and good.

I discovered that Trader Joes sells an 8 oz bags for far cheaper than anywhere else.

Looking for good quality, reasonably priced.

I just can't really enjoy most pasta dishes unless they have toasted pine nuts tossed over them.
