We've done a few, including one at L’Auberge Chez Francois. There has never been high pressure to buy at any of them, you have a nice meal (yes, free), sometimes meet interesting people sitting next to you, amd the a short sales presentation. When you reach a certain net worth, or a certain age, you get more and more invites.
Now that we are empty-nesters, if we are free that evening, and if it's a restaurant we're interested in, we have no problem attending

My parents have done a few of these if it's somewhere they really want to eat, but I tell them not to go, because they are always trying to sell you something.

My DW and I were invited to the expensive L’Auberge Chez Francois restaurant in Great Falls, Virginia by one of the wealth management companies. The presentation was around 45 minutes, and it was very pleasant. Absolutely no pressure from them because all the invitees were high-net worth people.
