American does not run any planes with lie flat seats on any routes out of the DC region.

United sometimes has 777s and 787s flying IAD to LAX, SF and San Diego. These are twin aisle planes that have biz class, that usually have lie flat seats. Most of the flights on Inited are 737s, which are single aisle planes with no lie flat seating. If these seats are that important to you, be sure to look at the aircraft type when booking and to look at the seating diagram/chart.

Because it is cozy and fun.

Yes but only on certain domestic routes, mostly JFK to LAX/SFO. They don't have that product on any routes out of IAD/DCA/BWI.

Get legs up. More space. Better plane.

Not sure why that's relevant. Every airline flying from JFK-LAX and JFK-SFO (except Alaska) has lie flats in business class because it's a premium route and they can get the revenue for the more expensive product.

You are incorrect, Delta still offers lie flat business seats on their DCA-LAX flight, and United often has them on IAD-LAX when they run 777s on the route - but that can change/shift day to day and month to month.

That’s a day flight. Why would you want to lay flat?
