This is an MSDE problem. They should be providing a free payments platform for the whole state

This is ridiculous. The school should accept regular electronic payments.

I agree that this is exploitative, particularly on low-income families who may need to reload the accounts in smaller, and more frequent, amounts.

Wouldn’t they be getting free lunch?

They hired this company in 2008. The "convenience fee" was $1.95 then.

And they haven't fired the company.

I'm a regular watcher of BOE meetings, and I don't recall any public testimony complaining about the company or the fees. I think if parents don't like the fees, they just don't use the online option.

My kids school has so many students they can't make it through the lunch line during lunch so at least you have that going for you, op.

I’m more annoyed that I can only put in $120 at a time. So I’m adding money every month and have to pay the fee each time. At least let me put in enough to cover the year.

+10000

And for future reference, you can send a check with your kids to school. No fees.

First, the one time fee was jacked up recently and it's already overpriced. Next I loaded my two kids' accounts this morning and even though it's one credit card charge to load both accounts, I'm charged the fee twice - once for each account. Why TF is MCPS using this abusive software. I hope everyone files a complaint. End rant.
