I thought hdl was “good” cholesterol and kept ldl from sticking to arterial walls? How does it increase mortality?

I’m not sure. I’m the pp with 110-115 HDL but LDL is 95 and tris 40. My doctor said it’s great to have high HDL and wasn’t phased at my numbers but I read some men with higher HDL have higher mortality rates, women can have higher without as much risk.

Yes, and I also eat an apple a day.

Me too! What supplements are you taking?

My HDL is 82 but my LDL is 127. I run 4-5 miles 6 days/week, lift 1 hour 6 days/week and play tennis 3x week.

I exercise religiously (HIIT 3 days, run 6 miles 2 days) and my HDL is steady at 65. My LDL was creeping up (as high as 130) but I lowered it to mid 80s with

2 grams plant sterols
1.4 grams red yeast rice
2 grams fiber.

Per day.

I work out 6-7 days a week around 10 hours a week on average depending on time of the year. Its a mix of cardio and weights

Yes! I work out hard about 6 days a week. Eat great and am healthy in all areas and labs but get flagged for overall cholesterol because my HDL is like 110-115 but LDL is normal and tri is low. Doctor not concerned and actually told me it was great overall

I do exercise a lot.

Same. My total cholesterol is a bit over 200, and I always get a little flag on my lab results. But most of that is HDL.

Yes. Consistently over 100.

My HDL has always been higher than normal and my LDL has always been lower than normal. But my total cholesterol is high because of the high HDL number.

I do exercise a lot.

Mine was 95 last time. I’m not at all concerned about that. My LDL was like 75 and the triglycerides was around 40 something. I train a lot now and have been on that track for about 1.5 years. My HDL the previous time was around 75 or so.

I talked to my DR about this, because my HDL is consistency around 115 (LDL <90, TRIs <75). No one else in my family has very high HDL. Yet very high HDL seems to correlate with 1) people who exercise a lot, and 2) INCREASE in all-cause mortality.

My PCP is not concerned since all my other markers are good. But how many of you regular exercisers also have very high HDL?
