Majority wins, but everyone helps with meal prep and clean up.

I would not be impressed if everyone has a snack and then no one is hungry for dinner and it goes to waste.

I don't disagree that whoever is cooking should be the one to decide though.

+1 We eat dinner around 5:30-5:45 PM because that's when everyone is hungry and when people get home from sports practice. Put out crudités or a quick salad for people to eat while dinner is put together if you need more time.

Light snack of crudités and something else right after school for whoever is home. No one would eat dinner if they had two snacks beforehand. Dinner food is generally healthier than snack food so I don't want them filling up on goldfish.

My kids would ruin their appetites with a snack at 5:30. They're hungry and would overeat snacks. It wasn't until high school that they could do a later dinner. Until then, 5:30 dinner made sense for the kids. I suspect Spouse A is the dad or a very skinny mom.

I switched to early dinners, as nights became filled with practices and other activities. It's been wonderful and ensures no one is full from snacking before dinner.

Whoever is cooking wins. I personally love eating early / having a snack before bed, but TBH, when we have dinner has fluctuated over the years based on ages of kids and their respective bedtimes/activities as well as our own jobs.

I think 5:30 is way too early for dinner (no toddlers or senior citizens in my house) but if I don’t have to cook, I’ll eat whenever.

I’m with spouse A. I like to eat dinner around 7:30-8. My kids have a little snack around 4-5.

What about having the salad out and people can take it as they get hungry and then the dinner meal is served at 6 or 6:30 or whenever?

Yeah, I think whoever is cooking makes this rule.

Sure depends on who is cooking.

Who fixes dinner? They decide.
I would be too busy for this nonsense
Rotate who's responsible for all of dinner, if others would like change.

I have dinner ready really early because everyone is hungry early.

Family is all home by 5:30pm and everyone is hungry enough to eat then. Spouse A says it’s too early to eat, everyone should have a light snack and eat dinner at a normal time. Spouse B says why not eat dinner now and have a light snack later, if at all.
