Wine pairings make me drink too fast and too much. I don’t like them, and I love wine. I wish they had a half wine pairing, like every other course

Spoken like an alcoholic.

Whatever you want.

While I think certain wines or flavors complement each other and can be really interesting, food and drinks are meant to taste good. Drink what you want! Ask for a recommendation if you want to. There are no rules you have to follow.

That is probably the better way with Japanese and Chinese food.

Some people don't drink, not wine anyway.

Why? Maybe op can't drink for medical reasons?

I guess anyone who is pregnant or on medication just should give up then!

To actually answer the question: I did several fancy tasting menus while pregnant. I drank sparkling water or mocktails. Though I did take some sips of wine from my husband to see how it went. Nicer restaurants should be able to accommodate you, no matter the reason.

It’s ok to not drink.

I went to a very extensive tasting menu while I was pregnant. I drank sparkling water. Took a few sips of my friends wine for a few courses, but mostly made do with the sparkling water.

It was that meal that my pregnancy aversion to truffles decided to show up, but that’s a whole other issue…

You shouldn't be partaking in a tasting menu if you don't like the wine parings. Are you 12?
