Foreign Policy just released their rankings of international relations schools. Could be useful in determining what schools might be a good fit that weren't on your radar.

Top of the list is the usual IR heavyweights, no surprises, imo.

OP you are right to think that hamilton is out of this student’s league. It’s concerning that people here comment so irrationally.

I would consider Haverford. My daughter is applying and has similar interests. One thing she liked is that if you do a semester abroad, Haverford grades any courses you take as pass fail. The school wants you really embrace the culture and the opportunities that come with travelling abroad.

I agree that these schools are not out of reach especially if TO. DD has higher test scores but a similar GPA and is applying to some of these schools TO.

She would like to go to a small liberal arts college and study international relations or government. She is pretty liberal in her politics. Her current list has some realistic schools and others that are beyond reach. I think she needs a better (more realistic) list than she has. What other schools should she look at? Her current list is:

Vassar (out of her league)
Hamilton (out of her league)
Bryn Mawr
American University (not a SLAC - but she likes it)
Gettysburg
University of Mary Washington (luckily she really likes this school)

None of the listed schools are out of her league based on her GPA & AP scores.

Dickinson College might be of interest based on major & school size. Does her school rank students in each class ?

Your daughter should receive strong consideration from any standardized test optional school.

?? Hamilton is right there.

We don't know everything about this kid, but with a 4.0 and 5's on APs an going TO I don't understand why people are saying that Vassar and Pitt are reaches?

I'll add St. Lawrence, small liberal arts, good government dept and great study abroad options and even a semester in DC program. Probably would get some good merit. My DD had slightly higher scores and got $40K per year in merit.

I think Vassar is viable as a reach, especially if she applies TO, and especially since she has the high AP scores. Does she otherwise have a good app? Is she in the top 10% of her graduating class?

Thanks!
I'd check the finances of Gettysburg before applying.

She'd like to study international relations or government.
