We had a fun one night overnight at national harbor that included going on the Capitol Wheel. You could even get there by water taxi.

Or an overnight in DC could be fun…..

This is OP. I can do a boat. I will look at the kid friendly post about Annapolis.

Thanks for all of these ideas!

We did a charter fishing boat in NC when my child was 7 and they loved it. Maybe they have something like that? (Small boat for 5 w/ no bathroom in our case, so this depends on your needs)

If you stay near Dulles Airport, you could do Funland, Udvar-Hazy, Cub Run Rec Center indoor water park, Eleanor C. Lawrence park/Walney Visitor Center, and/or Frying Pan Park all close by. Hyatt Place Dulles South often has good prices and is close to restaurants.

Maybe Bethesda. There's Imagination Stage, and Brookside Gardens has a small play garden area but also a butterfly pavilion. There's also a nature center somewhere near there, although I haven't been. I think downtown Bethesda has a children's museum with limited days/hours.

I do have mobility limitations but it gets too complicated if I list all my stuff. If you guys can generate options for what’s within an hour, I will see if I can adapt it for my abilities. Thank you!

Annapolis, Front Royal, Fredericksburg. Braehead Farm in Fredericksburg is a lot of fun.

You also MIGHT be able to make it to Richmond in an hour and a half depending on where you’re starting.

We have a tight radius because I’m limited in how far I can drive due to a medical condition. Needs to be within about an hour of Arlington. Where could we go for a quick weekend trip? And what would we do there that’s fun for a 7 year old? We’ve done Baltimore but could go again. That’s all I can think of!
