U9 is already 4 teams deep. It’s all about money, of course. Parents are willing to pay because they think it’s a “leg up” for their kids. Which it is - they plan on U9 this year and again next year. Except next year they will know the coach and easily get into the top team.

Top teams are playing up a year because there isnt enough competition in their age group. The top teams will play 2-3 competitive games max if they stay in their age group at u littles and the other 6 games will be 8-0 10-0 or even 15-0. Its not fun for either team.

Sometimes, they do not have enough registered players for a full team at the youngest age group. So, instead of turning them away, they have them all combine with the next age group up.
Yes, they will loose a lot more in the fall time, but they are developing much faster (wins and loses are not important at that age), and the next year, most of those kids will stick to their own age group, when enough players enroll for torm a full team.

Yes, they can be in their own age group, developing. That’s why we have these age groups in the first place.

Why are they allowing kids a full year younger to join U9 travel teams? That seems ridiculous, they should be in the pre travel prep classes and not hogging spots on travel team. When the team goes against actual U9 (bigger kids), they end up losing. I guess typical American FOMO
