This is part of the UVA/public school admissions liturgy but definitely not true.

DC is a 1st year at CAS and had 3 Bs at the time of EA application (out of 23 possible grades after 11th grade, including middle school grades that counted for FCPS high school credit) and got in.

Adding that we were told by multiple teachers and guidance counselors at the start of middle school (when kids started taking high school credit classes) that UVA expects all As for admission.

If you look at your school's naviance you will see that is obviously not true.

This does not list an average gpa (section C12) but if you look at previous years where they did give a value, it was always about 4.3, indicating that the value in C11 is weighted.

Dean J says they don't bother recalculating because they look at grade trends over GPAs.

I think weighted. In the past UVA included the average GPA below and it was above 4.0, which to me suggested they were using weighted. UVA didn't include that average GPA in this submission. I looked over at W&M's CDS and it also cites 90% at 4.0 with a 4.4 average GPA.

SCHEV clearly shows weighted with 25th percentile at UVA at 4.2 GPA. So 90% at 4.0 or higher would be consistent with that.
