Go on a campus tour of each and visit many different departments. Ask questions. See how certain low-level /entry science courses are taught on Barnard's campus (for Columbia undergrads--ie those not ready for the normal starting level of chem or bio). Whether or not Columbia women and men say it out loud or not, Barnard is considered easier and the women not as bright. Same with the dual-foreign-school kids who are "General Studies' when they finally get to Columbia as juniors. Not right or nice or whatnot, but the dynamic is present. Talk to a lot of current students and you will see.
New poster, but isn’t General Studies much easier to get into vs. Barnard and is quite large? I would Barnard women would be more respected than that cohort.

19:26 here. This was not my experience at all. Some of my best friends were Columbia women.
I’d be concerned about either school right now because of the protests/hostility on campus that is negatively impacting the entire student community. I have a good friend whose child is a student there and last spring and this fall so far have been terrible.

OP here- thank you, this is helpful. DD loves the idea of a small women’s college with all of the opportunities of a large research university…but not if there are going to be eye rolls when she opens her mouth in class.

heard a story there was a recent investment banking analyst class, decked to a specific team - first day they are going around room doing introductions. One girl from barnard was yadda yadda this and that and referenced ivy league - a Cornell grad next to her mansplained wait a minute Barnard is not ivy!l league. Argument ensued - both called in to MD and let go next day. True story

I went to Haverford- I do not think it was an issue at all. I had several good friends who went to Bryn Mawr.

Honestly who cares? At the end of the day Barnard is a smaller closer knit community. They all have access to the same classes. It comes down to what environment the particular student thrives in
