If it's a friend or a child, I'll tell them to fix their pants. If it's a stranger, I'd mind my own business.

Look away, mumble "gross" to myself, then keep eating.

I would take a small piece of food, nut or pea and try to make it a basket into the crack

woof. Same thing I do when I see gross grooming or behaviour during eating (someone picking at themself and eating it/spitting/belching)... I'd quickly look away, change position or otherwise block my view/switch seats, do some slow deep breathing and have something cold to drink, and do my best to put it out of my mind so I could eat. If I couldn't get it out of my mind I'd just have my meal wrapped to go.

I really am not super special. Iron stomach (I'm a nurse). I used to be able to see/do/talk about anything while eating. Now, ever after severe morning sickness with all my pregnancies, it flipped a switch in me. Now, seeing gross things really nauseates me and I can't stop thinking about it- especially public spitting which was always gross but never bothered me before. Now it gives me the yips.
