Subject: Why is it more common to move from LI to Westchester than vice versa?
Just a reminder that the Hamptons are on LI.
Also, I think the public schools are overall much better on LI than in Westchester and NJ - at least going by college admissions. I’ve bern shocked hearing how bad kids do coming out of NJ and Westchester schools, and they are all Ivy legacies. From LI if you miss Ivy you still get Michigan, which LOVES the LI public schools. Just fyi.

I grew up on LI and now live in westchester.
The traffic to LI is awful and it feels more isolated geographically and ideologically.

I would say LI is pretty geographically cut off but I have met people not from there that have moved there. My old town had a lot of NY-ers move there in 2020 due to large plots of land in north shore nassau that westchester generally doesn't have (that close to NYC) and a handful (of the very wealthy) wanted to be an easier drive to their houses in the Hamptons or North Fork
I never minded the geography since I prioritized boating/sailing culture and Westchester doesn't have it as much. I seriously don't see a difference in culture between the two places. There are a LOT of Trump supporters in my town of Bronxville .....Any NY suburb with a high propensity of white catholics over the age of 60 is gonna be that way.

Yup. With the exception of Locust Valley, I don’t know a soul who lives on LI, though I know many people from there.

Westchester typically gives you an easier commute into Manhattan, which is where people tend to work. LI is also a bit "cut off" from the rest of the metro area, PITA to get on/off the island.

Lots of umc professionals who grew up on LI live in Westchester. But you almost never encounter anyone who grew up in Westchester who lives on LI? Why is that?
