No, MoCo has always given land use lawyers what they want: Lengthy planning approvals and slow permitting processes. You never hear the MoCo YIMBYs lobbying to change these things because the land use lawyers are major funders of the local YIMBY groups. You don’t see the council pushing to change it because the land use lawyers donate to their campaigns. We could have had so much more housing in the past 20 years if the planning process had fewer steps and permitting happened faster.

Waiting for YIMBYs to explain to us common folk why this is actually a good thing in 3….2….1….

In the bill, the impact tax owed by developers would be reduced by the amount of state aid that went toward school construction in previous years, meaning that the county would be using state aid to reduce taxes paid by developers instead of using it to build schools.

This tax cut would come on the heels of tax cuts in 2020 and 2023, which Friedson also strongly supported. The previous tax cuts contributed to falling impact tax revenue and shortfalls in the MCPS construction budget that forced cuts to the Woodward project and delays in renovations at Damascus and Magruder.

The latest proposal has strong support from land use attorneys who have been among Friedson’s biggest donors. Previous tax cut proposals favoring developers have passed the council unanimously or nearly unanimously even though Planning has failed to demonstrate that they were effective in causing housing prices to fall or construction to increase.

So much for prioritizing education.

It’s shocking the way he ran and presented himself versus the progressive agenda that he pushes. We voted for the guy based on being a left of center democrat, and now he’s engaged in yet another progressive Friedson Folly.

It literally says the costs used to calculate taxes must be reduced by the amount of state aid. MCPS loses money. Developers gain money. It’s pretty simple. Typical YIMBY move to go with misinformation right away.

It literally says, "The tax rates must reflect the
County’s cost to construct a student seat, reducing the rates by a
factor equivalent to the portion of funding for capacity-adding
projects in the adopted school CIP attributed to State Aid."

Which is not what you said it says, and it's also not Montgomery County giving school money to developers.

You seem to struggle with reading. The bill reduces developers’ taxes based on how much money the county gets from the state for school construction and no other factor.
The connection between state aid for schools and the amount of the tax break for developers couldn’t be any clearer. It’s in the plain text of the bill. If you don’t like it take it up with the people who wrote the bill or its only sponsor, council president Andrew Friedson.

Please look up the profit margin for these "evil" developers.

He's not doing it. The post is misinformation.
