Go to whatever is on at the Kennedy Center Millenium Stage, their free performance space.

If you walk in every day life, Watergate to WH won't be hard. If you are used to driving everywhere, you might want to Uber one way.

Several Smithsonians require advance tickets now. I believe Air and Space, Natural History, and definitely Af-Am. But all the art museums are walk in and very nice. The Renwick Gallery is literally next to the White House and good for a quick stop. If you like colonial history or antiques, the DAR museum across the street from WH is great.

Walking back from the WH via the waterfront would be a lovely stroll. From WH, go south to Constitution, then West toward the Lincoln Memorial. You will skirt the Washington Monument and WWII monuments. At the Lincoln end, you'll go past the Vietnam Memorial. At Lincoln Memorial, head back north toward watergate along the riverfront. The waterfront path will bring you right back to hotel.

Technically I can walk to the Mexican border but I don't want to. No one can tell you how far you can walk.

You can certainly walk to the National Mall as well, but to walk from Watergate to the White House, you would not walk through, or even by, the National Mall. Just go a couple blocks down Virginia Ave, then take G or F Street several more blocks east.

You could easily walk through parts of the National mall to get to the White House.

You could, but it would be out of the way, and it is more pleasant to walk through the residential parts of Foggy Bottom than down VA Ave.

You can walk anywhere in DC if you've got time and quality footwear.

A mile isn't a long walk. Get out of your car once in a while.

You could also rent a segue/scooter/bike depending on comfort level. If just a few hours, I would prob Uber to what I wanted to see, and thens troll back. Just know the White House is ticketed (I'm sure you know this) so would need to plan well in advance. Not sure how far out your trip is, but there are other sites of interest that are more "walk in". And all the places like the White House are iconic and fun to see even from the outside.

You can get to Georgetown, the Kennedy Center (I believe they have daily free stuff), the White House, the Mall (you will be close to the Lincoln Memorial side). You could even cross the bridge to Arlington Cemetery. Nice location. Just be careful there are some big roads right around the Watergate, but all with marked crossings and lights. You may run into some homeless encampments, but just skirt around. The real crime these days is random carjackings that victimize we locals. Some street holdup theft too, but less in these areas unless late at night. Generally safe areas, just keep your awareness if it is late and maybe take an Uber then. Would not be expensive--all downtown locations. Enjoy!
