Meh. Last cycle, my East Asian DC checked the box, noted fluency in an Asian language elsewhere in the Common App, and touched upon their Asian identity (although it wasn't the central theme) in the personal statement. DC was admitted to multiple T20 schools. Being Asian is a meaningful part of DC's identity so it didn't make sense to hide it. AOs want authenticity. YMMV.

yes, this race box is removed from AO so they won't have visibility to this. They can still probably tell from your name so I suggest start looking at changing your name.


And yet applicants with clearly Asian names still get admitted in quantity. Or are suggesting to legally change it for a year, then changing it back? Is emancipation necessary since most are under 18? If there is a best practice guidelines please share.

But your name is Lee, you got an 800 math SAT, you have 15 APs, and your ECs are violin, tennis and robotics.

I think they’ll figure it out.

My Asian kid left it blank. Top 20 schools are still practicing 'AA" in their own ways.

yes, this race box is removed from AO so they won't have visibility to this. They can still probably tell from your name so I suggest start looking at changing your name.
