Strangely enough, the ski resorts near Asheville, NC get more reliable conditions due to elevation.

You have to go up to Quebec these days for reliable cold temps. Even VT isn’t reliable.

The bolded is true. The underlined is...true, but Vermont gets more natural snow. There's a reason Canadians go to Jay Peak.

VT is having an incredible winter. Winters like this will probably become 5-10 year events, but hopefully they don't disappear completely for a long time.

We went over MLK Day when they got 10” of fresh powder and had a blast. Much, much better than Liberty, Whitetail, etc. For reference, we typically ski at Park City and the CO resorts.

We were there over Christmas for a few days. It's fine.

With Epic, we wanted something a bit more than our usual day trips to WT/Lib/RT and NY and NE are too far for a few days of skiing for a long weekend so we tried 7 Spr.

Fwiw, we stayed at the hampton inn (free breakfast) in Somerset. From there, it's an easy drive to 7 Springs, Laurel, and Hidden Valley. The latter 2 resorts are small, but less crowded and that, for us, was a much needed tradeoff from dodging bodies at the much bigger 7 Springs the 1st day.

Just like all mid Atlantic resorts, the conditions are unpredictable and vary from week to week They do have glades, but at Christmas there wasn't enough snow. I'm guessing now they do have enough base for tree skiing.

I’ve had fun at Seven Springs, but I remember the last time I went (maybe 2-3 years ago?) the snow cover wasn’t great. For semi-local skiing, we go to West Virginia, specifically Timberline. They seem to benefit from some sort of micro-climate in which they get lots of snow even if surrounding areas don’t get that much. It’s a small mountain, but the lifts are relatively new and pretty efficient at shuttling people around the mountain. We haven’t stayed slopeside yet, so I’m not sure how pricey that is, but we’ve been able to find reasonably priced condos within a short driving distance.

We went two years ago (last year friends said it was just not worth the drive given the conditions).

Personally, I didn't like it at all. There are more lifts and trails than other Mid-Atlantic options but the vibe is very odd/off (compared to what I was used to). People throwing so much garbage off lifts that bins underneath them weren't even nearly enough. And then you're stuck in line with those same people who were generally loud and tipsy. I'm probably snobby for not liking it but .. didn't like it.

My teen went last February and said the snow was bad with many rocks exposed— thought it would be better than Liberty but sounded like not much. Last year was a particularly bad season for the mid Atlantic though. I think it’s typically better than Liberty. Wondering how it generally compares to Wisp which is about the same distance.

I have never seen so many drunks on a hill as I have at Seven Springs. Be safe!

It is a great place to ski but can get insanely crowded. Arrive early and leave after lunch or try to go on a week day/random school holiday. Weekend lift lines, especially on holiday weekends are painful

Would love to hear any recent experiences at Seven Springs for skiing or snowboarding. Thinking of going in February with an 8 and 11 yo
